The summer of 2012 is when it all began for me. I was a little 9 year old boy and I was going to sleep away camp for the first time. I was scared, worried, and anxious to find out what the whole experience would be like for me. It was my first time being away from my parents for more than a few days and I was scared that I wouldn't fit in. Little did I know that those two months would change my life forever.
The reason I love camp so much and I go back every year is simply because of the friends I have made at camp. I met my best friend 4 short years ago at camp and we are still best friends to this day. Camp transformed me from a little, shy, 9 year old boy into a mature young adult. Camp Shalom welcomed me with open arms and I will forever be grateful for that. The endless memories and friends I have made at camp made me the person I am today and I feel so blessed to be a part of the Camp Shalom family. From all of the activities during the day, to bonding as a cabin during the night, Camp Shalom is definitely one of the best camps around. If you are a parent reading this right now and are asking yourself, " Why should I send my child to this specific camp?" Well I'll tell you why. Camp Shalom is so special because, it's a small camp. The smaller the camp, the more of a family the camp is. Everybody knows everybody and nobody is ever left alone. Camp is a great place to unplug from everything else going on in the world and escape from responsibilities at home. Camp is also great for finding out more about yourself and learning things about yourself that you never knew. Even though camp is only 7 weeks it is definitely the best 7 weeks of the year and waiting 10 months is definitely worth it. I think everybody should be able to experience sleep away camp because it is really the best place on Earth.
